Ratnagiri Estate, Ashok Patre, Anaerobic Natural Cauvery
Cooked Berries, Caramel, Molasses, Brownies
Tart, Syrupy, Smooth
The Patre family founded Ratnagiri Estate in 1927, and Ashok assumed ownership in 1989. Since then, Ashok has revolutioned coffee production on his farm and in India. India has not historically been known for specialty coffee production, but in recent years there has been great improvement in the samples we’ve received. Ashok only produced washed coffees from 1989 to 2010. It was at that time, though, that he noticed cafes in the US pushing for higher quality single origin offerings. In 2016 Ashok produced his first honey-processed coffees. Ashok’s intention is to showcase India in a new form, and that’s exactly what these coffees do. We have been absolutely loving this coffee. We are particularly drawn to the cooked berry notes, reminding us of blueberry and cranberry; as well as the syrupy body that makes this offering really stand out for single origin espresso. We are excited to build a long future with Ashok and Ratnagiri Estate.
