Maragogype Nanolot, Gold Mountain Coffee Farmers
Passion Fruit, Mango, Jasmine, White Grape
Intense, Fruity, Sweet
Maragogype (mar-ah-go-hee-pay) is a relatively tall but low yielding variety that produces extremely large coffee beans. They have equally extreme flavor potential. This nanolot is the product of the ripest hand-picked Maragogype cherries from a small and select subset of farmers partnered with Gold Mountain Coffee, out of Nicaragua. We first met Ben and his team at the Specialty Coffee Expo where we were able to sample their entire catalog of coffee. This coffee stood out as our absolute favorite. Gold Mountain is a direct trade farming group that connects farmers of high-cupping specialty coffee directly with coffee roasters. They are so passionate about what they do, and the sustainability of coffee, that they purchased a rainforest to protect endangered species and were given the 2016 SCA excellence award for sustainability. At every turn the flavors of this coffee are best described as intense. We get passion fruit and mango, with jasmine and lavender undertones, and a bubble gum like sweetness through the finish.
